Back in 2013, Josh Christopher and Melis Soyaslanova, two Brighton residents at the time, met randomly via friends and decided to embark on a musical journey; forming the electronic/pop duo IYES.
With Christopher’s love for Pop music, Soyaslanova’s more leftfield-folk approach and nothing more than a bedroom studio, they both began to write and produce tracks, before sending their debut demo ‘Lighthouse’ to a few online blogs.
It attracted the attention of the blogosphere and gained momentum, until the second release ‘Glow’ gained national press including a Sunday Times Culture piece.
IYES grew an online following, began to play live shows, including 2 sold out shows at Koko, London and a support slot with Raleigh Ritchie on his UK tour.
When their track ‘Glow’ was picked for an international advert campaign for the Sony Xperia Z3 phone, they licensed the track to Sony and released more music via their own imprint, Love by Mistake. US actress and music tastemaker Chloe Grace Moretz also favourited and befriended the band.
Songs such as ‘Til’ Infinity’ which became Zane Lowe’s Next Hype and various BBC Radio 1 plays later, plus a stint at BBC Introducing stage at The Great Escape, IYES showed countless times their songwriting strengths and exciting live performances.
After positive press reviews from Pitchfork, Nylon, Teen Vogue, The Guardian and Notion amongst many and several million streams/plays online, the duo return with their dancier, more pop-focused track ‘Feelings’.
Written in 2015, and having after many re-works and versions, the pair decided to join forces with upcoming production duo ‘Kilian and Jo’ to take the song to its maximum potential.
With both Christopher and Soyaslanova now located in Berlin, Germany, and the suggestion of a new electronic/dance direction, the pop songwriting duo are set to embark on a new journey with IYES, whilst also focusing on their upcoming solo projects.
